Raising Super Heros

Here is my Book list as requested and the super heroes of the Bible:

5 Superheroes of the Bible
5. David (a.k.a. Batman)
Just like Batman, David didn’t really have any supernatural ability. He was however quite resourceful and good at winning fights that he seemingly had no chance to win. He admitted to killing lions and bears in order to protect his sheep. Right afterwards he went and killed the 9-foot giant known as Goliath with his utility belt (or sling). He also lurked in the shadows like the Caped Crusader. When Saul went to relieve himself in the cave where David was hiding, David crept up behind him and cut off a corner of his robe, though he confessed he could have killed Saul.
See: 1 Samuel 17 and 24
4. Elijah (a.k.a. The Flash)
Elijah’s incredible speed allowed him to outrun a chariot over a distance of about 13 miles. Of course he did possess a few powers that the Flash lacks, such as the time when he called down fire to consume 51 men who came to capture him. Of course, they sent another 50 after that to try again and they fell to the same fate.
See: 1 Kings 18:44-46 and 2 Kings 1
3. Moses (a.k.a. Captain Planet)
Earth! Fire! Wind! Water! Heart! Moses used all of those as he led the Israelites out of captivity. Moses’ superpower, like Captain Planet, allowed him to control nature. It started with the plagues of blood, frogs, lice, flies, livestock disease, boils, hail mixed with fire, locusts, darkness and death. He controlled the wind and water when he split the Red Sea and later caused water to stream out of a rock by hitting it. And though I always thought the Planeteer with the Heart ring got screwed, Moses found a way to use heart during the battle with the Amalekites. He stood on a hill watching the battle and whenever he held his arms up the Israelites would begin winning the fight.
See: Book of Exodus
2. Josheb-basshebeth, Eleazar and Shammah
(a.k.a The Fantastic Four)
I know there are only three guys not four (just leave out the Invisible Woman), but David actually had 30 “mighty men”. However as the author makes it known multiple times, none of the thirty attained to these three. Josheb-basshebeth, the captain of the three, used his spear to kill 800 men at one time. Eleazar found himself facing the hated Philistines alone, but he fought them until he was exhausted and when the rest of his army came to help him, they found Eleazar had already slain them all. Shammah stood his ground against an army when his own fled. As it turned out, the rest of his army was unnecessary. Once King David said he would love a drink from the well of Bethlehem, which at the time happened to be at the base camp for the Philistines. So the three men together broke into their garrison and drew him some water from the well while fighting off the Philistines.
See: 2 Samuel 23
1. Samson (a.k.a Superman)
Samson is the ultimate superhero of the Bible, just like Superman is the number one superhero of all time. Remember the time he killed a lion with his bare hands or the time he killed 30 men who threatened his wife. How about when he killed 1000 men with the jawbone of a donkey? My favorite is when the men are waiting by the city gates to kill him, so Samson goes and rips the gates off their hinges and carries them to the top of a hill. Just like Superman though, Samson had one weakness. Hair was Samson’s Kryptonite. But after Delilah shaves his head and he is captured, they forget that hair tends to regrow and in his last show of strength he pushes out on two pillars that hold up the building where he is being judged. The building collapses killing all 3000 of those who came to watch him die.
See: Judges 13-16

Ministry opportunities

Hey hey hey ladies! I am super excited to announce a few positions are still open on the m2m 2012-2013 leadership team! We are looking for 1 or 2 more possible table leaders and 1 Publicity coordinator!
Table leaders host a table for the year and facilitate a small group within our large group. The publicity coordinator designs and publishes any and all public communications other than the blog. She does all of the fliers for m2m, an e newsletter, and she runs the m2m facebook page! This is just a peek into each position.

The opportunity to serve on this team is truly amazing so please pray about it and ask Amber or Marcella for an application if you feel that gentle tug towards joining our wonderful ministry at m2m. If you have any questions about either position you can email us at Ambernschumacher@yahoo.com or thecaldwellbunch@gmail.com.

Easter Egg Lunch Hunt

Kaylee and I decided to have a little fun with lunch! We filled Easter eggs with all sorts of lunch items. Bite sized lunch items. Even little peanut butter & honey sandwiches.

Since Kaylee and Aaron were going to both be finding these, we marked the ones for Kaylee with stickers and the plain ones would be Aaron's. This would make splitting up lunch a little easier.

Then I got busy and hid the eggs before Aaron's kindergarten bus arrived.

Kaylee ran right up to the bus and handed Aaron a basket. He hit the grass running.

After the eggs were found, the sorting began. It was such a beautiful day (as all of the days here in Ohio have been the past couple of weeks) so they enjoyed their little lunch outside. I usually hide eggs with little snacks as a fun afternoon activity, but Aaron liked how there were sandwiches too so I think we'll do lunch eggs more often.

m2m

Just a friendly reminder that we will not meet again until April 19th!
We do however have our Easter party coming up! Scroll down to the flyer for details!
See you soon.
Blessings,
Amber

The Good Samaritan Project

Amber will be giving mini sewing lessons to those that want to learn how to make a super simple tote, and we will assemble the bags for the moms that would like to keep one in their car to give to someone in need!
There is plenty to do even if you do not need/want sewing lessons, so come out for a great night of fun and fellowship. Please remember no kiddos, child care is not available for us that night.
Hope to see you there!

March Madness Giveaway...

I know it seems like forever since our last giveaway, but the wait was well worth it! We have 1 AWESOME prize for one of you ladies.

I know we talked about organization last month...but this prize made it to this month. I am a bit of a freak about my car, not as much as I used to be, as having 2 littles makes it difficult to be crazy about a tidy car and still have hair on my head. But I like having a place for everything where we can reach it. And if you recall our speaker from January, Susan Peterson, she gave us a list of NECESSITIES to keep with us at all times. If you remember that list was pretty hefty, especially for a family of 4 or 5 or 6!  I loathe having 6 bags of stuff randomly rolling around or in some cases flying around my car. Enter one of our moms, Vitalia, whom introduced me to 31bags! She saved my sanity and my car with this AWESOME XL utility tote:

You can win this tote by leaving us a comment here on the blog about your kiddos...we all know they say and do the funniest and most endearing things! Remember, if you cannot comment with your name hit the drop down box and click anonymous, be sure to leave your name at the end of the comment! You can earn extra entries by participating on our face book page too! For each valid post that embodies our tag line; Building Faith, Family, and Friendships; you create you can earn an extra entry and for each post you comment to you will earn an extra entry.

*All Entries must be made by March 14th. the winner will be announced on March 15th and you will receive your prize on March 15th at our meeting!

Thanks for playing!

Joyful Parenting...By Ann Voskamp

10 Points of Joyful Parenting {Printable}

10
Point Manifesto for Joyful Parenting

(any text in turquoise links to posts for more explanation & encouragement)::
1. Today, I will make our home a house of prayer. I will pray at set times. And I will invite our children to come move into an interior space that lives with God.
2. Today, I will transfigure all things into beauty, and I will refuse to see anything else.
3. Today, I will not have any emergencies. There are no emergencies! Only amateurs hurry.
4. Today, when stress mounts, I pray to dismount it with gratitude. My stress management plan will be intervention with verbal thanks. I can only feel one feeling at a time, and I choose to give thanks at all times. Fight feeling with feeling!
5. Today, I will pray to speak words that are only STRONG words, words that make these children feel strong. Grace words. Grace is the only non-toxic air. All other words I breathe are death words.
6. Today, I will pray to be consistently consistent. I will create safe rhythms that our children can find security in. I will create daily ceremonies because everyday we are CELEBRATING the gift of now!
7. Today, the moment when I am most repelled by a child’s behavior, that is my sign to draw the very closest to that child.
8. Today, I will hug each of my children as many times as I serve them meals — because children’s hearts feed on touch. I’ll look for as many opportunities to touch my children today as possible — the taller they are, the more so.
9. Today, my priorities will be all Things Unseen.
10. Today, I will laugh! And I will let the little children laugh! I will create a culture of JOY!

The Best Days Of Your Life

Lamentations 4:1 "How the gold has lost its luster, the fine gold has become dull! The sacred gems are scattered at the head of every street."

"How much of mothering we miss because our focus is simply on surviving! We act as though the business of raising our children is simply something we must get through before we tackle the really important stuff of life. Sure, we all seethe at well-intended advice from kindly grandmothers in grocery stores who tell us (as we wrestle with three cranky kids in the check out line), "These are the best days of your life! Enjoy them because they pass so quickly!"
"Not quickly enough," we mutter under our breath. But these women do have a point-one that comes with the wisdom of their years. The stage of mothering young children is a stage. It only feels like an era! And it will pass. It will not last forever. It will end one day.
Gold loses its luster and becomes dull. But investing in the life of a child is an investment that will last forever. Make the most of life's irretrievable moments-now."

Oh! The things they say!

I am enamored with the endearing and funny things my little man says! And I am blessed to know that with number 2 there will be many more to come! When I saw these, I just KNEW we all had to have the oportunity to have one. Keep it in your purse or with your Bible, somewhere you frequent and get to jotting down all this good stuff!
Thanks kinderpendent for an AWESOME idea...
quote books ..tutorial

My kids are constantly saying things that are hilariously cute. I'm awful with keeping up with the baby books. (And when I say awful, I mean I haven't touched one in years.) BUT, I don't want to lose these little quotes that pop out of my kiddos' mouths. So, on this rainy Saturday afternoon I designed these printable quote books.

Wouldn't you like one? or two? Here's a quick & easy tutorial:

1. Select the graphics you'd like to use above. (click on them to get the full printable size)

2. If you'd like to add font to the word bubble cover, open it up in a paint document & add your type. Then save.

3. Open a word document. Add the cover image. (It needs to be centered, on the very bottom of the page.)

4. Open a new page. Add the bubble images. The upside down image goes on top, right side up image on the bottom. Center the images for an even center half fold.

5. Print. (I printed the pages, front & back) Then fold all of the pages in half, with the cover on top.

6. Either use binding tape, or create your own with fabric scraps. Sew on the top of your book.

7. Wait for those cute quotes and record away!

Here is the direct link just in case something is not working here!

Have a blessed and Fun Filled day!

The answer to finding more time in a day...

Jesus Calling by Sarah Young
February 10th

"TRUST ME ENOUGH to spend ample time with me, pushing back the demands of the day. Refuse to feel guilty about something that is so pleasing to Me, the King of the universe. Because I am omnipotent, I am able to bend time and events in your favor. You will find that you can accomplish more in less time, after you have given yourself to Me in rich communion. Also, as you align yourself with My perspective, you can sort out what is important and what is not.
Don't fall into the trap do being constantly on the go. Many, many things people do in My name have no value in My kingdom. To avoid doing meaningless works, stay I. Continual communication with Me. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you. "

Luke 10:41-42; Psalm 32:8 (NASB)

Thanks Renee for a great devotion.

What a God!

"What a God we have! He encompasses every role to meet our needs-even those needs we'd rather not admit having.
Isaiah 9:6 describes four specific roles of God, beginning with "Wonderful Councelor." In this role, God, as king, carries out a royal program for the worl. God is in charge of the details of our days, in our homes as well as in our countries and the larger universe.
As "Mighty God," he functions as an omnipotent soldier. God is able to fight and win any battle for his people [even those Mommy battles, you know what they are].
"Everlasting Father" refers to God's role as provider and protector-somone we can lean on and trust.
As Prince of Peace," God is able to bring about the completion of his will for all time: health and restoration for us individually and for our society.
"Wonderful Councelor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." What a God we have!"

I hope this is as refreshing and comforting to you as it was to me today!
In His Grace,
Amber

A Free Behavior Chart!

printable behavior chart
So being the co-coordinator at m2m, I do a lot of what we call floating...I cruise the room and hang out at each table for a few minutes during discussion time. I hear over and over how we struggle with correcting negative behavior. But I do not hear too many people offering up solutions. It could be that we are arfraid our techniques sound crazy, we are not confident in our own methods, or we are plain too tired to offer any sound advice ;) At any rate...It is hard to figure out what works for each kiddo...I know "The Whiney Jar" Which eventually just became the "Ugly Behavior Jar" was a huge success for my son and for a few people that I shared my secret with. It is esentially a visual points and reward system. Well, this is similar, and really cute! Not to mention ya'll know how much I LOVE freebies! Only this time someone else did all the work for me! Helllloooo! Love it! So here it is. Just print it out and laminate it and you have your very own super cute behavior chart!
Here is the link to the print. It is an 8x10! http://i466.photobucket.com/albums/rr29/Telsee/Boysrewardchartforkidscopy.jpg
Happy Correcting! Amber
