Over the past 30 years, Coach Randy Myers has been teaching kids how to play tennis and training their parents in the process. The more time he spent on the court…the more he started to have opportunities to share about life principles that would help each child succeed in life. He quickly realized that tennis was a powerful way to make a positive impact in the lives of both kids and their parents.
“I love coaching kids, because they are so open and easily molded. I’ve found that the three skills of modeling, instructing, and encouraging my students has empowered them to be great athletes and great kids. As I started teaching parents these basic skills, they started seeing the same results off the court!”
Raised in a family of 9 brothers and sisters, Randy grew up in southern California enjoying a lifestyle of tennis from an early age. After playing on his high school and college teams, he opened his first private tennis club at the age of 22. Through years of dedication to his students and the sport, he worked his way to become the head tennis pro at Palisades Tennis Club, and he is currently the Director of Tennis at Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa, California.
Randy and his parents attended church until the time he was in 8th grade. Although he believed in God, Randy didn’t understand much about Jesus until much later in life. At 45 years old in the midst of marital challenges, Randy re-connected with God in a profound way and began following Jesus. After a 9-month separation from his wife, Randy was given a second chance by God to try things a different way.
Randy and his wife of 27 years, Debbie, are happily married with two grown children (Randy and Jessica), and they reside in Costa Mesa, California.
“There’s a need for parents to step up and intentionally lead their children. They don’t need to just be their child’s friend. They need to be a leader. Having been raised in a secure, loving home, I was relentlessly encouraged by my parents as they led me toward a great life. Because of that, I’ve become the man I am today.”
