Thanksgiving Devotion

Celebration of Devine Goodness

According to the Merriam Webster’s dictionary, Celebration of Devine Goodness is one of the definitions of Thanksgiving. Devine. Ponder that word, Devine; superhuman, Godlike, heavenly, perfect, being in the service or worship of a deity. Humm, thanksgiving is looking a little different now; isn’t it?

Most of us are hoping no one will ask us what we are thankful for this year. It has been fairly dismal for most of us if we look at it without thanksgiving, without devine goodness. Have you lost your job? Lost a loved one? Lost your home? Lost a child to the world? Moved away from your family? Are you tired? Is that what your focus is on?

In order to be thankful, we have to remember what God is doing in our lives; what devine goodness is.

One, we are daughters of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Really! How can you not be thankful for that! Like my mentor friend likes to say, “There we have it. Done deal!” Sounds easy enough, but we have to live here on this earth and sometimes we just have a hard time remembering what we are thankful for.

How can we celebrate Devine Goodness?

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Be joyful always; pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”

Wouldn’t it be fun to make a Thanksgiving box this year and put it out for the whole year somewhere easy to get to and always in sight, and each time you
(or anyone in the family) has something to be thankful for, you write it down and stick it in the box. Then next Thanksgiving open that box at the table and have everyone read all the devine goodness that has been poured out on you all year.

Just think of the memories you’ll make and how pleasing to God it will be when he hears you praising, worshiping and thanking Him at your Celebration of Devine Goodness year after year.

Ephesians 5:20 “always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Celebrate! "Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. 1Chronicles 16:8-9; May God bless each of you with the most amazing Celebration of Devine Goodness.

  1. LOVE the idea of a Thanksgiving box! As the craziness of the world envelopes us it is so easy to forget how much we have to be thankful for. I am definetly going to start the tradition of a Thanksgiving box this year in honor of how truly blessed we are on a daily basis!
